I get that Peter Parker is supposed to be a super nerd that is touched by science but Maguire's Parker was overly nerdy to the point where he was annoying and made the films hard to watch. Garfield's character is more of a relaxed nerd - you know he is extremely smart and a bit of a loner, but he also carries himself in a semi cool manner. He is sure he will be popular one day - right?!
The Good:
Denis Leary plays the chief of police and is just awesome in his limited role. He steals the show every time he makes an appearance and has the perfect mix of charm and attitude. Additionally, Andrew Garfield's Parker is much more likable [in my opinion] and realistic and just plain adorable. Even when he is being a jerk you can't help but root for and laugh at his version of Parker. Of course - graphics are pretty awesome as well as the score.
The Not So Good:
I understand that with a full reboot you have to go over Parker losing his uncle and him picking up his alter ego to fight crime but I would have really enjoyed a little less time spent on that. I feel like it is such a well known part of the Spiderman folklore that surely you do not need to focus 1/3 of the movie building up to him losing his uncle. Just my opinion!
Overall Grade:
I was pleasantly surprised with this film and was not bored or waiting for it to be over. It was a nice reboot with a more likable Peter Parker and I am curious to see how they will proceed with this version of Parker movies. My grade? B.
Have you seen The Amazing Spiderman? What did you think?
I watched it only because of Emma Stone. It turned out to be decent, and I liked the fact that he's using web cartridges. If only they could add him to the Avengers lineup.
